Overview

The @ECFS Technology Working Group is a parent/guardian-led initiative to improve communication and collaboration regarding the growing concerns about the impact of smartphones, social media, video games and other technology on our children.

The Working Group was established in 2023 as we started to dialogue with school administration and grade representatives.  In 2024, we discussed Jonathan Haidt's four new norms outlined in The Anxious Generation:

• No smartphones until 9th grade

• No social media until 10th grade

• Increasing free play and independence

• Phone-free schools

These discussions surfaced significant alignment and many great ideas.

Our purpose:

• Establish shared technology social norms to keep our kids safe and happy

• Foster healthy relationships with tech and each other

• Strengthen our families and community

We hold monthly meetings on different topics.  Our planned topics for 2025-2026 include:

• Back-to-School Tech Planning

• Group Chats 

• YouTube / Video Games

• Ed Tech & AI 

• Addictive Tech (gambling, AI Chatbots, pornography)
