Apple has some hard-to-find features on the iPad that can help protect children's hearing and promote safer listening habits.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, “children and teens' use of personal listening devices is one of the most prevalent forms of noise exposure, research shows. Excessive or prolonged exposure to high volumes can result in hearing loss, tinnitus, or hyperacusis, a condition in which everyday sounds may seem unbearably loud and painful.”
These settings can give you data about loud usage and automatically reduce the volume if the sound is too loud.
Where to set this control:
This must be set on your child’s iPad (it can not be done remotely)
Step-by-Step Setup

Set Headphone Notifications to “On”
Set Reduce Loud Audio to “On”
For younger children, set to 75 decibels, which is lower than Apple’s default, per the AAP’s recommendation

Tap Health
Tap Headphone Audio Levels
Set Measure Levels to “On”
Set Include Other Headphones to “On”
